The Hamburg Area School District, located in northern Berks County, is rich in the fine traditions of its Pennsylvania German heritage. The region is a scenic blend of rolling hills, fertile farmlands, and small communities. The district covers 103 square miles and is the largest, geographically, of the county's 18 public school districts. The district encompasses the Boroughs of Hamburg, Strausstown and Shoemakersville, and the Townships of Perry, Windsor, Tilden, Upper Bern and Upper Tulpehocken.

Interstate 78, from Harrisburg to Allentown, passes through the area and intersects with PA Route 61 connecting Pottsville and Reading. Philadelphia is 80 miles to the southeast; Harrisburg is 55 miles to the west. The geographic location is a short driving distance to colleges, professional sports, and cultural activities.

The current student population is approximately 2,600.

The district's six buildings include the recently renovated high school for students in grades 9-12, the middle school, which opened its doors at the start of the 1996-1997 school term to students in grades 6-8, and four buildings for our elementary students: Hamburg Elementary for students in grades 2-5, Upper Bern Elementary for students in grades K-2; Perry Elementary for students in grades K-5; and Strausstown Elementary for students in grades 3-5.

The district employs 186 full-time and 2 part-time professional staff; 15 administrative staff, and 85 full-time and 30 part-time support staff.
