The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is the series of standardized tests given to students throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The PSSA measures individual student growth and the student’s proficiency in math and reading.
Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 will be administered the writing assessment in February 2009. Students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 will be administered the math and reading assessment in March 2009.
Students in grades 4, 8 and 11 will be administered the science assessment in April 2009.
Proficiency levels for third-grade students were provided for the first time in 2005.
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 requires that school districts issue an annual report card detailing information about student achievement on state assessments and other factors. Report cards must be developed for the school district as a whole and for each individual school within the district.
