My first year of tenure as the Superintendent of the Hamburg Area School District has come to an end. Most of the things I have discovered will not surprise you. We have very good students. Most parents are very supportive of their children. We have a lot of outstanding educators in our school system. Our community is supportive of providing the best resources for our students in order to insure their success as citizens. There is an abundance of “Hawk Pride”. And, in general our students are very productive in life after high school.
There have also been challenging and exciting events and decisions in the past year. We started, and will complete, a new elementary school in Tilden Township. The new school created a need to make a decision as to which students would attend the Perry Elementary School and the Tilden Elementary Center. We made a decision to improve the athletic facilities by erecting new bleachers and a field house. We increased the graduation requirements to include four years of math and 3.5 credits in science. Across the district, technology is taking a huge step forward. A committee was formed to study the Perry Elementary facility needs. And, we revised our evaluation system for staff members.
Next school year will bring more opportunities for growth and improvement. I look forward to working with the staff, students, parents, and community members to provide even better educational programs for our children.
I appreciate the welcome I have received from everyone associated with the school district.
Respectfully,
Steven P. Keifer Superintendent
