Academic Challenge – Mr. Macsisak - Academic Challenge is an academic quiz competition organized by the Berks County Intermediate Unit. Four times a year, HamburgAreaSchool scholars compete against other district teams at area colleges and universities. During a match three teams of four students answer questions in a variety of areas including current events, geography, literature, art, and history.

Agricultural Science Club - Mrs. Bucheit - The Agriculture Science Club is for students who are interested in agriculture and landscaping.  Students from the club work in the greenhouse and on various landscaping projects around the school.  In the fall, it holds the annual citrus sale. The profits from the sale are used to maintain the greenhouse and provide scholarships for club seniors who plan to study life science of environmental science in college. Each winter, members attend the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.

Art Club – Mrs. Dommel-Interested students should see Mrs. Dommel for a pass for Open Art Studio during their study hall times.

Chamber Singers - Mr. Piergrossi-Chamber Singers is an auditioned vocal ensemble, which rehearses 2 times every six- day cycle. The High School Chamber Singers perform a variety of music designed to challenge the student’s musicianship skills. The Chamber Singers perform at the annual Holiday and Spring Concerts, as well as numerous performances in and out of the Berks community, local organizations and school district events.


Chemistry

Concert Choir - Mr. Piergrossi-This vocal ensemble rehearses three times per six-day cycle. The high school chorus performs a variety of music to develop the student's musicianship skills. Performances at scheduled concerts are mandatory since these concert performances are the culminating effort of our rehearsals and each is the equivalent of a final exam. Students will be required to take vocal tests each quarter in order to maintain their position in the choir.

Delta Epsilon Phi - Mrs. Spencer-Delta Epsilon Phi, the German National Honor Society, was instituted at HAHS in 1985. This society is sponsored by the AATG, the American Association of Teachers of German, a professional organization to which Mrs. Schenck and Mrs. Spencer belong. German III and IV students who maintain a 90% average and who are members of German Club are invited to join.

Drama Club- Mr. Piergrossi-The drama club's foremost function is the teaching of drama and all other areas of that field. The goal of the club is to help students realize their acting potential capabilities through the musical, play, and annual field trips. Lessons on lighting, scenery, makeup, costuming, and speech is covered during meetings. Knowing more than just "acting" can help both crew and cast better understand what needs to be done on stage.

Gamers

German Club - Mrs. Spencer-Every year the German club visits a major city (e.g., Baltimore). They also take a trip to Knoebels Grove upon completion of the school year. Whether it is for fundraising purposes, club, spirit, or an urge for chocolate, they sell many items throughout the year. Every club meeting, a different grade level provides an assortment of snacks in which to indulge, and, occasionally, they listen to some German tunes.

Hacky Sack Club- Mrs. Graham-In the Hamburg Area High School Hacky Sack Club, over 100 proud and talented members, dedicated to the sport and to improving their performance and agility, come together to challenge themselves. Students group together, compete with each other and share new ideas and tricks. We meet once every month in the Old Gym on Club Day 1.

Jazz Band – Jazz Band is a select group of instrumentalists who perform at an advanced level. Music of a contemporary nature is performed (1940's to present). Instrumentation is a full saxophone section, trumpet and trombone section, and rhythm section. Other instruments may be added as dictated by the music. Music may include swing, rock, Latin rock, ragtime, etc. One performance will be scheduled per year with other Jazz Band festivals scheduled whenever possible.

Latin Club - Mrs. Schenck-The purpose of our Club is twofold: to promote the study of Latin and to provide an opportunity for students 9-12 in the various classes get to know each other. Latin Club orders a myriad of shirts every year, using screens designed by members. It also runs two field trips: to Knoebel's Grove and to an Italian restaurant. Each club member has the option of taking the mythology exam, the entrance fee for which the club pays. We sell pretzels and cinnamon buns with the other Foreign Language Clubs, and each club day, we provide refreshments.

Leo Club – Ms. Heckman/Mrs. Jones-The Leo Club is the student division of the Lion's Club. In this service organization, students volunteer their time and conduct fundraisers to help others. Some of the projects include collecting eyeglasses for the Lion's Eye Bank, soda tabs for the Ronald McDonald house, cell phones, and stamps. They participate in walk-a-thons, parades, face-painting, and help the sponsoring Lion's Clubs with their breakfasts and events.

Library Club - Mrs. Ruhf-The Library Club is a group of students who volunteer their free time (study hall) to work in the library. Students in the club assist with activities such as checking books in and out, shelving books, checking that the books on the shelves are in order, creating and installing displays in the library showcase, and other library projects.

Lifeline Club- Mrs. Herman-The Lifeline Club is a group of students dedicated to living the Christian faith.  Students gather for prayer and fellowship, and host a Christian band concert in the spring called a Spike.

Life Skills Club - Mrs. Braun-The mission of the Life Skills Club is to develop a community of understanding and compassion for people who are different.

Marching Band – This is a non-select band which rehearses three times per cycle during school hours and requires some out-of-school rehearsal time. The band prepares and performs a variety of marching and concert band music and provides music for parades, halftime shows and other sports and concert events.

Military History

National Honor Society - Mrs. Cinicola-National Honor Society is an organization made up of members who are selected on the criteria of scholastics, character, leadership, and service. Over the course of the year, members provide service for many organizations in the community and the school.

Physics Club - Mr. Weiss-Physics Club is an association of students whose common cause is to increase the interest in sciences.

Prom Committee – Mrs. Keck-Students participate in the entire prom planning including choosing the colors and prom theme, deciding on a menu, picking a background for the photography, and choosing favors.

Publications - Mrs. Jones - Publications is a class taken by students for credits toward graduation. It is primarily a writing class in which students participate in the creation of the school newspaper, yearbook, district newsletters, district literary magazines, and programs for the music department. They also help with the school web page.

Quizzo Club – Mr. Forrer/Mrs. L. Witman/Mr. Kaufman-A trivia contest club in which students compete in teams to answer random trivia questions.

SADD - Mrs. Wyles-Herbert-SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) promotes positive, healthy life decisions and deals with varied issues that affect teens. The club asks juniors to sign the Prom Promise in which they pledge not to drink and drive. It also supports the Red Ribbon Week activities and the Life Skills class Easter Egg Hunt. Their main goal is to promote a healthy, drug free life.

Ski Club - Mr. Bickelman/Mr. Bucheit-Ski Club is a group of students which takes trips to various ski areas, and its big trip of the year is to Vermont.

Social Studies Club - Mr. Bickelman-Social Studies Club goes to many different events throughout the year. This year they are taking trips to WashingtonD.C. and New York City. They will also have a model U.N. team.

Spanish Club - Mrs. Roebuck-The Spanish Club coordinates meetings and activities which promote interest in and enthusiasm for the Spanish language and culture.

Spirit Hawks – Mrs. Hardick-The Spirit Hawks club is attached to the Assets committee. We do things to uplift the school spirit and attitudes. We organized the door decorating contests and will plan spirit days once a month. Students will be going to games to help show support. Students also help the assets committee with the key students program and other things as they arise. We would like to also get out into the community and help others.

Step Team – Mrs. P. Witman-The Step Team is a club which encourages diversity and fellowship through the expression of music and dance.  All are welcome. No professional skills necessary.

String Ensemble - Mrs. Dowd-The string ensemble rehearses after school. The high school string ensemble performs a variety of music to develop the musicianship needed to perform in front of an audience. Performances at scheduled concerts are mandatory and are considered equivent to final exams.

Student Council – Mrs. Brunner-Student Council is responsible for activities like Homecoming, pep rallies, spirit weeks, the Holiday Dance, and various fundraisers throughout the year. The purpose of the club is to promote school spirit and provide fun, safe ways for the student body to fellowship and get involved.

Wilderness Club - Mr. Zimmerman-Wilderness Club members go on hiking trips and participate in other outdoor activities. Their biggest trip is the river float on the New River in West Virginia.

Young Authors Club - Mrs. L. Witman-Young Authors Club is an organization for young writers. This club offers an opportunity for members to share and discuss their written works with each other.
