Diversified Occupations

PPC: 6; Grade 12; Full year
Credit: 4.0

Diversified Occupations is a program which prepares high school seniors for occupational competence and related life skills. Classroom theory and supervised paid work experience are the two components of the program.

The classroom theory component assists working students with job acquisition and skills including job survival, safety awareness, employer-employee relationships, decision-making, problem-solving, stress management, communication skills, money management (credit, banking, taxes, insurance), and a personal career search. Diversified Occupation Club participation is also part of the classroom experience.

The “Training Agreement” clearly defines the student’s, parent’s, employer’s and school’s responsibilities. The student worker must be paid at least minimum wage, be covered by worker’s compensation, be in a safe working environment and spend at least 15 hours on the job during the school week.

The teacher will make periodic visits to the work site to ensure proper harmony between the student and employer.

This program is available to students in the Career Preparation and Business Curriculum.
