In December 2004, the Hamburg Area School District School Board voted unanimously to begin construction of a new elementary building to replace the aging Tilden and Hamburg Elementary schools.
After an extensive search for appropriate sites close to the Hamburg borough, it was decided to build at the same location as Tilden Elementary. Original plans called for the demolition of Tilden Elementary after the new building was complete. However, after surveying the site, architects and engineers determined that part of the new building must be constructed on the current location of Tilden Elementary. Students and staff who would normally attend this school have been relocated across the district for the next two years while construction takes place.
