Math

The day begins with math seat work. This is the time when we practice a wide variety of skills. then we will go over the homework from the night before so each student understands where they may have made a mistake. Now the lesson of the day is introduced. The new math program called enVision Math incorporates three breaks throughout the math lesson. These math breaks are called the Daily three. The lesson is introduced, then there is a break, time for one of the daily three, back to the lesson, and then a break, back to the lesson, a break, and then wrap up of the day's lesson. Each break is organized into three different categories: Math by self, Math with someone, or Math Writing. Each child will go to each break throughout the math block. While students are working on a daily three, the teacher has an opportunity to work with small groups of students on certain skills.
Mastery of the basic number facts is also important. Each day we will have a quick in-class review of number facts. Fact practice homework will be sent home each night if your child needs additional practice.
A formal assessment of your child's progress will occur at the end of every topic. The assessment will consist of skills your child has been practicing nightly. Students will also take a fact assessment.
