    HOMEWORK & GRADING PROCEDURES

    KINDERGARTEN

    2016- 2017

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Kindergarten!  We are about to begin an exciting year together.  Please take a few minutes to review our homework and grading policy.  You may contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding the information below.

In full day kindergarten, students learn academic skills and social skills.  Some concepts will be graded at a mastery level, while other concepts will only be introduced.  Both social and academic skills will be evaluated for students’ progress reports.  Whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction will be used in the classroom.

    HOMEWORK

At times, students will complete written work in school to practice the concepts and skills being taught.  When a completed paper is sent home, please review the work with your child.

In reading, students will be asked to practice sight words for homework on a daily basis.  In addition, students may be asked to read a story aloud.  Please sit with your child and follow along as he/ she is reading the words or stories assigned for homework.

In addition to the homework assigned in school, reading aloud to your child is a great way to foster a love of reading and spend quality time together.  Please take time to read with your child every night.

    COMMUNICATION

Parent/ teacher conferences will be scheduled throughout the school year, which will give us an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in detail.

Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher any time you have questions or concerns through phone, email, or by sending a note in your child’s folder.  Communication is very important for a successful kindergarten experience.
