Welcome to the Hamburg Area School District Food Service Department web page. As a partner in education, we are committed to providing our students and staff with wholesome, nutritious, and appetizing foods, served in a courteous and professional manner. Our menus meet the standards set by the National School Lunch Program.
Breakfast and lunch is served in all buildings. The Middle School and High School have several serving lines that offer many options for selecting a reimbursable meal. These healthy, convenient, and economical meals contain high-quality ingredients from the five food groups: grains, vegetables, fruits, meat/poultry, and dairy products. Research has found a clear connection between good nutrition and student achievement, and schools that have implemented healthy food programs report fewer behavior problems.
Covid-19 Waiver Update
Please note: The USDA has announced a waiver that allows for all children 18 years and younger to receive breakfasts and lunches for free. The waiver expires on 12/31/20 or when the program runs out of funds. Below you see the Covid -19 procedures. Currently, all meals are free. This includes students that are on campus, attending HAVA, homeschool, and cyber/charter schools.
Please continue to apply for free and reduced lunches as you would each year so that there may be a seemless transition when the funds are depleted or Dec. 31, 2020, which ever occurs first.
In addition: This USDA waiver allows for all community children 18 years and younger to receive free breakfasts and lunches. Please follow the same instruction as noted for Virtual/Homeschool students in the Covid-19 Covid Food Service Update below.

HASD Covid-19 Food Service Procedures
Serving Line Procedures for On-Campus Learning-
*Elementary students will have a choice of their entrée. The remaining items will all be placed onto their tray.
*Secondary Students will choose between entrees/hot sides and then will add their own choices of pre-packaged/cupped fruits and vegetables to their tray.
*All cashiers will use handheld scanners to scan the student’s bar code. Pin Pads will not be used.
Breakfast Service for On-Campus Learning-
*Breakfast will be sent home in the afternoon to be eaten the following morning.
--Elementary students should request breakfast from their teacher each morning.
--Secondary students will pass through the café each afternoon.
*The Breakfast bag will include breakfast entrée, fruit, juice, and milk.
Meal Service for Virtual Learning and Home School Students-
*Meals will be distributed twice per week. This first week will be 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts on Tues. Sept 8 and 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts Thurs. Sept 10. Most weeks will be Mondays (2 Lunches and 2 Breakfasts) and Wednesdays (3 Lunches and 2 Breakfasts). Please look for updates.
*The meals will be distributed from the Middle School from 1:00 PM until 1:30pm. Please park in the front of the building and enter through the cafeteria doors. Signs will be in place.
*The menu is undefined but will usually have a hot lunch on pick-up days plus addition lunches and breakfasts.
***Families should pre-register for their meal pick -up by 8:00am on each service day through the District’s Website /Food Service Department

Free & Reduced Price Meals Information
The District serves free or reduced price meals daily to students who qualify, based on income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Click Here to be directed to the on-line application. If you would prefer a paper application you can obtain one meal through the District Food Service office or any other school office at any time during the school year. You can request assistance completing an application by contacting Debbie Cashman at 610-562-2241, ext. 2534.
Please note: It is never too late to apply for participation in the Free/Reduced Meal Program for your child. Your confidential application is kept on file in the Food Service Office and is not shared with anyone. Applications should be submitted on-line with this link. (Application)
WHEN A STUDENT IS ELIGIBLE FOR A FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH THEY ARE ALSO ENTITLED TO A FREE OR REDUCED BREAKFAST.
COMPASS allows Pennsylvanians to apply for social service programs, such as Food Stamps (FS), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Energy Assistance, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), etc., online. Families can use COMPASS to apply for free or reduced price school meals only, or they can apply for other services at the same time (FS, TANF, etc.). You can apply for free or reduced price school meals online by going to the COMPASS website at http://www.compass.state.pa.us/
Summer Meals Locator
Nutritious free meals are available for children and teens 18 and younger at many locations throughout the summer while school is out of session. You can use any of the following methods to locate sites that serve free meals to children beginning in mid-May.
