- Hamburg Area High School
- Grading
-
Grades will come from a combination of tests, quizzes, homework, oral presentation, and projects.
Test - Tests will be given once a chapter at the end of the chapter. Tests will be announced ahead of time. Tests may contain a reading, writing, listening, and speaking section.
Quizzes - Quizzes will be given frequently to check the students understanding of vocabulary and grammar topics. I anticipate having around 3 vocabulary quizzes per week and 1 grammar quiz per week. Vocabulary quizzes will typically be on 10 vocabulary terms and the students will know ahead of time which terms they will need to study.
Homework - Homework will be given frequently. Homework will consist of written assignments and nonwritten assignments such as studying.
Oral Presentations - Students will have to perform speaking tasks in front of the class throughout the school year on varying topics. Some presentations will be done with other students and some will be done alone.
Projects - Students will have projects to complete throughout the school year on varying topics. Some projects will be done with other students and some will be done alone.
Missed assignments-Students are responsible to ask the teacher for work missed during an absence. If a student is absent from school, the student will have the same number of days they were absent to make up the work.-If a student is absent on the day of an assessment that was announced ahead of time, the student will be responsible to make up that assessment on the day of their return to Spanish class.-If a student is absent or sent home early for illness on the day that an assignment is due, the item will be due the next school day.-If a student is in school, but does not hand in the item that is due, they will have until the beginning of the period on the next school day to hand it in for a late grade. After that, the assignment will become a “0”.Cheating-Cheating will not be tolerated in class. This includes copying answers on a quiz, test, or homework. Cheating will result in a grade of "0" and parents/guardians will be called.Students' progress may be checked via the online grading system at any time. Any parents/guardians with questions regarding their students' progress, may contact Mrs. King at the high school (katkin@hasdhawks.org).
Middle School Grading
-
Grades will come from tests, quizzes, homework, classwork, notebook and projects. Students will be graded using a point value system.
Tests-A unit test will be given at the end of a chapter or unit. Tests will be announced and a point value will be assigned.Quizzes-These will be given periodically throughout a chapter or unit to make sure that students are understanding the information covered. Completing homework, studying vocabulary at home, and participating in class will all help to boost both quiz and test grades. Quizzes will be announced. Point values will vary.Homework-Homework will be given to reinforce and enrich the content. Homework assignments may not be given every night. These assignments will be worth 2-4 points. Teacher will check all homework.****All homework assignments will be posted on my teacher web page. This means all homework assignments can be completed even if the student forgets their notebook in their locker. Vocabulary lists are posted on my teacher web page (Google Classroom page) as well so that students can study for class, quizzes, and tests even if they forget their notebooks in their locker.****Classwork-The work that we do in class is what is ultimately going to help the students learn and be able to use the language. Some days we may be doing between 3-4 or more activities in class. Students will receive varying point values for certain assignments that are completed in class. Some will be graded solely on completion and some will be graded on content.Projects-If time permits, a project may be completed during 8th grade Spanish. Projects are very important as they help to bring the culture to life and give the students a better understanding of the culture. The projects will pertain to the culture of a Spanish-speaking country. If a project is assigned, the students will know about it in advance and they will be given both time in class and outside of class to complete it.Participation-While active participation is expected from each student during class, there is no grade for participation. However, when students participate fully in a language class, their chance of understanding the material and, ultimately, succeeding in the language and class are greatly increased.Missed assignments-Students are responsible to ask the teacher for work missed during an absence. A zero will be recorded for assignments not turned in. If a student is absent from school, the student will have the same number of days they were absent to make up the work. If a student is absent on the day of an assessment that was announced ahead of time, the student will be responsible to make up that assessment on the day of their return to Spanish class (as they have Spanish every other day).Cheating-Cheating will not be tolerated in class. This includes copying answers during a quiz or test. Any student(s) involved in cheating will need to make up a different version of the assignment at another time away from other students. The original paper will be sent home with the student to obtain a parent signature.Students' progress may be checked via the online grading system at any time. Any parents/guardians with questions regarding their students' progress, may contact Mrs. King at the Middle School (katkin@hasdhawks.org).
